YORK ARTISTS’ GROUP

York Artists’ Group is a co-operative whose aim is to promote the desirability and affordability of original art. The core group comprises three artists, Malcolm Ludvigsen, Simon Wallace, and Michael Smith (click to see artist's website) with very differing artistic styles and viewpoints.

Malcolm Ludvigsen has developed a large following for his impressionistic oil paintings - most of them completed on location - 'en plein air'. He can often be found on local beaches such as Robin Hood's Bay or Filey surrounded by curious onlookers. He aims to complete even a large canvas in around two hours - and then catch the bus back to York!  He even does the occasional nude.

On the other hand, Simon Wallace works almost entirely in acrylics and often takes several weeks to complete a single painting. He is known for the intricate detail of his wildlife paintings or depictions of stones on beaches from Yorkshire to the Outer Hebrides.

Photographer Mike Smith works almost exclusively using traditional, non-digital, methods, mostly in black and white, producing hand-made, limited edition, prints. Much of his work is of the Yorkshire landscape and detail within the landscape. He also does nude studies as a collaborative work with the model.

The Group is committed to holding regular exhibitions featuring their own work and that of a wide variety of invited artists at venues in and around York.  The next series of exhibitions will be held in one of York's most spectacular venues - York Cemetery Chapel, a beautiful Grecian temple in the middle of York Cemetery.  Details of exhibitions can be found on www.malcolmludvigsen.org.uk.

The York Artists' Group will work with other artists, and all those involved in the visual arts encouraging them to capitalise on every opportunity to promote the sale of original art via galleries, private shows and to commission. They also aim to promote original art by offering occasional tuition/ appreciation sessions. They will also take every opportunity to publicise the availability of original art in the York area and further afield.
